PHILLIES ANNOUNCE 2009 SPRING TRAINING SCHEDULE
Don’t look now, but spring training is just around the corner.
Pitchers and catchers will work out for the first time on February 14, with the full squad practicing for the first time three days later.
Spring training is starting a bit earlier next year because of the World Baseball Classic, a premier international tournament which will take place from March 5 through the championship game at Dodger Stadium on March 23.
The Phillies spring training schedule includes 18 games at Bright House Field in Clearwater. Two of the games will be against a WBC team. The Clearwater schedule begins February 26 (Toronto Blue Jays) and ends April 2 (Washington Nationals).
In addition to the 18 home games, the Phillies are scheduled to play 16 games on the road in Florida.
Game times are yet to be finalized and the schedule is subject to change. Ticket information will be announced later.
On-Deck Series
A rematch of the 2008 World Series will take place during the sixth annual Phillies On-Deck Series at Citizens Bank Park.
The American League champion Tampa Bay Rays will return to Philadelphia for games on Friday, April 3 (7:05 p.m.) and Saturday, April 4 (1:05 p.m.).

RUBEN AMARO, JR. NAMED PHILLIES GENERAL MANAGER
Ruben Amaro, Jr. has been named Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Philadelphia Phillies, David Montgomery, President, CEO and General Partner, announced today. Amaro, who signed a three-year contract, succeeds Pat Gillick, who fulfilled his three-year contract on October 31, 2008.
Amaro, 43, who has served for the last 10 years as the club’s Assistant GM, was hired by former Phillies General Manager Ed Wade in 1998. Since 2005, he has worked with Gillick in helping the Phillies become the two-time National League East Division Champions and 2008 World Champions....
